Easter Sunday Baptism Liturgy, Songs, and Prayers

April 20, 2025 - Easter Sunday + Baptism

Resurrection
Middle English: from Old French, from late Latin resurrectio (n- from the verb resurgere ‘rise again’ (in Christian belief) Christ's rising from the dead.

Instrumental prelude
-Each week we take a few moments for silent prayer and reflection during the instrumental prelude.
We invite you to join us in quiet prayer; to enter this place with quietness and trust before the Lord.

Call to worship: (standing together)
Alleluia, for the love that saves me

THE MARKING OF THE EASTER (PASCHAL) CANDLE (standing together)
As the vertical of the cross is traced the celebrant says
Christ, yesterday and today,
As the horizontal is traced the people join the celebrant and say
the beginning and the end,

As the Alpha is traced
Alpha

As the Omega is traced
and Omega,

As the first number of the year is traced the celebrant says
all time belongs to him,

As the second number is traced
and all ages;

As the third number is traced the people join the celebrant and say
to him be glory and power,

As the fourth number is traced the people join the celebrant and say
through every age and for ever.
Amen.

Five nails or incense studs may then be inserted into the Candle, reminding us of the five wounds of Christ. Each stud is placed in the Candle at the points marked, in the order indicated by the numbers. As each is inserted the celebrant says
1: Top
By his holy

2: Center
and glorious wounds

3: Bottom
may Christ our Lord

4: Left horizontal
guard us

5: right horizontal
and keep us.

This is the day when our Lord Jesus Christ was raised gloriously from the dead, crushing the power of sin and destroying the sting of death. Throughout the world Christians celebrate the mighty power of God as Christ calls us out of darkness to share in his marvelous light. May we, and all Christ’s people, shine as lights in the world to the glory of God the Father.

THE LIGHTING OF THE PASCHAL CANDLE (standing together)
May the light of Christ, rising in glory,
banish all darkness from our hearts and minds.

The light of Christ.
Thanks be to God.

THE ACCLAMATION
Alleluia! Christ is risen!
The Lord is risen indeed! Alleluia!
Alleluia! Christ is risen!
The Lord is risen indeed! Alleluia!
Alleluia! Christ is risen!
The Lord is risen indeed! Alleluia!

THE COLLECT OF THE DAY (standing together)
The Lord be with you.
And with your spirit.
Let us pray.
Almighty God, who through your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ overcame death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life: Grant that we, who celebrate with joy the day of the Lord’s resurrection, may, by your life-giving Spirit, be delivered from sin and raised from death; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
Amen.

THE GOSPEL
The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke (Luke 24: 1-12)
Glory to you, Lord Christ.

But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb, taking the spices that they had prepared. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in, they did not find the body.

While they were perplexed about this, suddenly two men in dazzling clothes stood beside them. The women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinners, and be crucified, and on the third day rise again.”

Then they remembered his words, and returning from the tomb, they told all this to the eleven and to all the rest. Now it was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them who told this to the apostles. But these words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not believe them. But Peter got up and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw the linen cloths by themselves; then he went home, amazed at what had happened.

The Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you, Lord Christ.

THE FLOWERING and RIBBONING OF THE CROSS
As we join in sung worship this morning,
we invite everyone, including the children, to bring flowers and attach them to the cross. You may take a moment to bow, pray, reflect as you place your flower onto the cross.
*Important Instructions - If you need flowers, they’re on the back table by the entry.
Take as many as you like. The more full of flowers the cross is, the better!

We will only use ONE aisle to come forward, please come down the Aisle directly in front of the cross, and return to your seats using the aisle along the windows at the right side of the chapel.

 Sung Worship (standing together)
The Easter Song
Hear the bells ringing, they’re singing
that you can be born again.
Hear the bells ringing, they’re singing
“Christ is ris-en from the dead!

The  angel upon the tombstone
said “He has risen, just as He said.
Quickly now, go tell His disciples
that Jesus Christ is no longer dead!”

Joy to the world!  He is risen!  Hallelujah!
He’s risen!  Hallelujah!  He’s risen!  Hallelujah!
Hallelujah!

Death in His Grave
Verse 1
Though the Earth Cried out for blood
Satisfied her hunger was
Her billows calmed on raging seas
For the souls of man she craved
Sun and moon from balcony
Turned their head in disbelief
Their precious Love would taste the sting
Disfigured and disdained

Chorus 1
On Friday a thief, on Sunday a King
Laid down in grief, but awoke with the keys
Of Hell on that day, the first born of the slain
The Man, Jesus Christ
Laid death in his grave

Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh
Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh

Verse 2
So three days in darkness slept
The Morning Sun of righteousness
But rose to shame the throes of death
And over turn his rule
Now daughters and the sons of men
Would pay not their dues again
The debt of blood they owed was rent
When the day rolled a new

Chorus 2
On Friday a thief, on Sunday a King
Laid down in grief, but awoke holding keys
To Hell on that day, the first born of the slain
The Man Jesus Christ
Laid death in his grave

On Friday a thief, on Sunday a King
Laid down in grief, but awoke with the keys
Of Hell on that day, the first born of the slain
The Man, Jesus Christ
Laid death in his grave

Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh
Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh

Bridge
He has cheated Hell and seated Us above the fall
In desperate places He paid our wages One time once and for all

On Friday a thief, on Sunday a King
Laid down in grief, but awoke with the keys
Of Hell on that day, the first born of the slain
The Man, Jesus Christ
Laid death in his grave

Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh
Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh

The Message                                             Fr Tim

THE BAPTISM OF ELLIOT ALAN WHITE
The Candidate with his Sponsors stand before the Celebrant.

The Exhortation
Dearly beloved, Scripture teaches that we were all dead in our sins and trespasses, but by grace we may be saved through faith. Our Savior Jesus Christ said, “Unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God”; and he commissioned the Church to “make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” Here we ask our heavenly Father that this Candidate, being baptized with water, may be filled with the Holy Spirit, born again, and received into the Church as living members of Christ’s body. Therefore, I urge you to call upon God the Father, through our Lord Jesus Christ, that of his abundant mercy he will grant to this Candidate that which by nature they cannot have.

The Presentation
The Candidate for Holy Baptism will now be presented.

We present Elliot Alan White to receive the Sacrament of Baptism.
Today, on behalf of this child, you shall make vows to renounce the devil and all his works, to trust God wholeheartedly, and to serve him faithfully. It is your task to see that this child is taught, as soon as he is able to learn, the meaning of all these vows, and of the Faith that you will profess as revealed in the Holy Scriptures. He must come to put his faith in Jesus Christ, and learn the Creeds, the Lord’s Prayer, the Ten Commandments, and all other things that a Christian ought to know, believe, and do for the welfare of his soul. When he has embraced all these, he is to come to the Bishop to be confirmed, that he may publicly claim the Faith for his own and be further strengthened by the Holy Spirit to serve Christ and his kingdom.

Are you willing and ready to undertake this?
Family and Sponsors: I am, the Lord being my helper.

Do you renounce the devil and all the spiritual forces of wickedness that rebel against God?
Family and Sponsors: I renounce them.

Do you renounce the empty promises and deadly deceits of this world that corrupt and destroy the creatures of God?
Family and Sponsors: I renounce them.

Do you renounce the sinful desires of the flesh that draw you from the love of God?
Family and Sponsors: I renounce them.

The Celebrant prays over the Candidate(s) and may anoint each Candidate with the Oil of Exorcism, saying
Almighty God deliver you from the powers of darkness and evil, and lead you into the light and obedience of the kingdom of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

The Celebrant continues
Do you turn to Jesus Christ and confess him as your Lord and Savior?
Family and Sponsors: I do.

Do you joyfully receive the Christian Faith, as revealed in the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments?
Family and Sponsors: I do.

Will you obediently keep God’s holy will and commandments, and walk in them all the days of your life?
Family and Sponsors: I will, the Lord being my helper.

THE APOSTLES CREED (standing together)
the celebrant continues
Will you who witness these vows do all in your power to support Violet in her life in Christ?
We will.

Let us join this family to proclaim our faith in the words of the ancient baptismal confession, the Apostles’ Creed.

Do you believe and trust in God the Father?
I do. I believe in God the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
Do you believe and trust in Jesus Christ?
I do. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

Do you believe and trust in the Holy Spirit?
I do. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Let us now pray for Elliot who is to receive the Sacrament of Baptism.

Intercessor:
That Elliot may continue in the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in the prayers.
Hear us, Good Lord.

That he may walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which he has been called, ever growing in faith and all heavenly virtues.
Hear us, Good Lord.

That he may persevere in resisting evil, and, whenever he falls into sin, repent and return to the Lord.
Hear us, Good Lord.

That he may proclaim by word and deed the Good News of God in Christ Jesus to a lost and broken world.
Hear us, Good Lord.

That as a living member of the Body of Christ, he may grow up in every way into him who is the head.
Hear us, Good Lord.

Celebrant:
Let us pray.
Almighty and everlasting Father, in your great mercy you saved Noah and his family in the Ark from the destruction of the flood, prefiguring the Sacrament of Holy Baptism. Look mercifully upon these your servants. Wash and sanctify them through your Holy Spirit, that they may be delivered from destruction and received into the Ark of Christ’s Church; and being steadfast in faith, joyful through hope, and rooted in love, they may pass through the turbulent floods of this troublesome world and come into the land of everlasting life, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

THE BAPTISM
The Lord be with you.
And with your spirit.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give him thanks and praise.

We thank you, Almighty God, for the gift of water. Over it the Holy Spirit moved in the beginning of creation. Through it you led the children of Israel out of their bondage in Egypt into the land of promise. In it your Son Jesus received the baptism of John in the River Jordan when the Holy Spirit descended upon him as a dove.

We thank you, Father, for the water of Baptism. In it we are buried with Christ in his death. By it we share in his resurrection. Through it we are made regenerate by the Holy Spirit. Therefore in joyful obedience to your Son, we bring into his fellowship those who come to him in faith, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Here the Celebrant touches the water and says
Now, Father, sanctify this water by the power of your Holy Spirit. May all who are baptized here be cleansed from sin, be born again, and continue for ever faithful in the risen life of Jesus Christ our Savior. To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be all honor and glory, now and for ever.
Amen.

Elliot Alan, I baptize you in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.

The Celebrant makes the sign of the Cross upon the forehead of the newly baptized  (using the Oil of Chrism), saying

Elliot Alan, you are sealed by the Holy Spirit in Baptism and marked as Christ’s own for ever.
Amen.

When all have been baptized and signed the Celebrant says
Heavenly Father, we thank you that by water and the Holy Spirit you have bestowed upon these your servants the forgiveness of sin, received them as your own children by adoption, made them members of your holy Church, and raised them to the new life of grace. Sustain them, O Lord, in your Holy Spirit, that they may enjoy everlasting salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Let us welcome the newly baptized.
We receive you into the fellowship of the Church. Confess the faith of Christ crucified, proclaim his resurrection, and share with us in the royal priesthood of all his people.

The parents present the newly-baptized to the people who are invited to cheer for the happy occasion. The Celebrant asperges the people with the water of baptism.

THE PEACE  (standing together)
The Peace of the Lord be always with you.
And with your spirit.
(Let’s greet one another with a sign of peace)

THE PRESENTATION OF THE GIFTS
All things come from you, O Lord,
And of your own have we given you.

THE SURSUM CORDA  (standing together)
The Lord be with you.
And with your spirit.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give him thanks and praise.

It is right, our duty and our joy, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. But chiefly are we bound to praise you for the glorious resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord; for he is the true Paschal Lamb, who was offered for us, and has taken away the sin of the world; who by his death has destroyed death, and by his rising to life again has won for us everlasting life. Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name:

THE SANCTUS
Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the Name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.

THE PRAYER OF CONSECRATION
(kneeling as you’re able or sitting)
Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself; and when we had sinned against you and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent your only Son Jesus Christ into the world for our salvation. By the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary he became flesh and dwelt among us. In obedience to your will, he stretched out his arms upon the Cross and offered himself once for all, that by his suffering and death we might be saved. By his resurrection he broke the bonds of death, trampling Hell and Satan under his feet. As our great high priest, he ascended to your right hand in glory, that we might come with confidence before the throne of grace.

On the night that he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take, eat; this is my Body, which is given for you: Do this in remembrance of me.”

Likewise, after supper, Jesus took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink this, all of you; for this is my Blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you, and for many, for the forgiveness of sins: Whenever you drink it, do this in remembrance of me.”
Celebrant: Therefore, we proclaim the mystery of faith:
Christ has died.
Christ is risen.
Christ will come again.

We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, and we offer you these gifts. Sanctify them by your Word and Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son Jesus Christ. Sanctify us also, that we may worthily receive this holy Sacrament, and be made one body with him, that he may dwell in us and we in him. In the fullness of time, put all things in subjection under your Christ, and bring us with all your saints into the joy of your heavenly kingdom, where we shall see our Lord face to face.

All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ: by him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever.
Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER
And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to pray:
Our Father in heaven,
your Name be hallowed,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
as in heaven, also on earth.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen.
(Matthew 6:9–13)

THE FRACTION
Alleluia,
Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us.
Therefore let us keep the feast, Alleluia

Sung Worship
All Hail King Jesus

Verse 1
There was a moment when the lights went out
When death had claimed its victory
The King of Love had given up His life
The darkest day in history

Verse 2
There on a cross they made for sinners
For every curse His blood atoned
One final breath and it was finished
But not the end we could have known

For the earth began to shake
And the veil was torn
What sacrifice was made
As the heavens roared

Chorus
All hail King Jesus
All hail the Lord of Heaven and earth
All hail King Jesus
All hail the Savior of the world

Verse 3
There was a moment when the sky lit up
A flash of light breaking through
When all was lost He crossed eternity
The King of life was on the move
For in a dark cold tomb
Where our Lord was laid
One miraculous breath
And we're forever changed

Chorus
All hail King Jesus
All hail the Lord of Heaven and earth
All hail King Jesus
All hail the Savior of the world

Singing holy, singing glory

Chorus
All hail King Jesus
All hail the Lord of Heaven and earth
All hail King Jesus
All hail the Savior of the world

THE POST COMMUNION PRAYER (standing together)
Heavenly Father, we thank you for feeding us with the spiritual food of the most precious Body and Blood of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ; and for assuring us in these holy mysteries that we are living members of the body of your Son, and heirs of your eternal Kingdom. And now, Father, send us out to do the work you have given us to do, to love and serve you as faithful witnesses of Christ our Lord. To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and for ever.
Amen.

THE FINAL BLESSING
Alleluia. Christ is risen.
He is risen indeed. Alleluia.
Praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
He has given us new life and hope.
He has raised Jesus from the dead.
God has claimed us as his own.

He has brought us out of darkness.
He has made us light to the world.

The God of peace, who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus,  that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the eternal covenant, make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well-pleasing in his sight; and the blessing of God almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be among you and remain with you always.
Amen.
