THE LESSON (standing together)
A reading from the book of Nehemiah (Nehemiah 8: 1-12):
…all the people gathered together into the square before the Water Gate. They told the scribe Ezra to bring the book of the law of Moses, which the Lord had given to Israel. Accordingly, the priest Ezra brought the law before the assembly, both men and women and all who could hear with understanding. This was on the first day of the seventh month. He read from it facing the square before the Water Gate from early morning until midday, in the presence of the men and the women and those who could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive to the book of the law. The scribe Ezra stood on a wooden platform that had been made for the purpose… And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people, for he was standing above all the people; and when he opened it, all the people stood up. Then Ezra blessed the Lord, the great God, and all the people answered, “Amen, Amen,” lifting up their hands. Then they bowed their heads and worshiped the Lord with their faces to the ground. Also …the Levites, helped the people to understand the law, while the people remained in their places. So they read from the book, from the law of God, with interpretation. They gave the sense, so that the people understood the reading.
And Nehemiah, who was the governor, and Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught the people said to all the people, “This day is holy to the Lord your God; do not mourn or weep.” For all the people wept when they heard the words of the law. Then he said to them, “Go your way, eat the fat and drink sweet wine and send portions of them to those for whom nothing is prepared, for this day is holy to our Lord; and do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” So the Levites stilled all the people, saying, “Be quiet, for this day is holy; do not be grieved.” And all the people went their way to eat and drink and to send portions and to make great rejoicing, because they had understood the words that were declared to them.
The Word of the Lord;
Thanks be to God

Lord, Let Your Glory Fall
Verse 1
Lord let Your glory fall, as on that ancient day
Songs of enduring love, and then Your glory came
And as a sign to You that we would love the same
Our hearts will sing that song, God let Your glory come
Chorus
You are good, You are good, and Your love endures
You are good, You are good, and Your love endures
You are good, You are good, and Your love endures today
Verse 2
Voices in unison, giving You thanks and praise
Joined by the instruments, and then Your glory came
Your presence like a cloud, upon that ancient day
The priests were overwhelmed, because Your glory came
Verse 3
A sacrifice was made, and then Your fire came
They knelt upon the ground, and with one voice they praised
A sacrifice was made, and then Your fire came
They knelt upon the ground, and with one voice they praised
Chorus
You are good, You are good, and Your love endures
You are good, You are good and Your love endures
You are good, You are good, and Your love endures today
THE GOSPEL (standing together)
The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Mark. (Mark 6: 30-44)
Glory to you, Lord Christ.
The apostles gathered around Jesus, and told him all that they had done and taught. He said to them, “Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. And they went away in the boat to a deserted place by themselves.
Now many saw them going and recognized them, and they hurried there on foot from all the towns and arrived ahead of them. As he went ashore, he saw a great crowd; and he had compassion for them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things.
When it grew late, his disciples came to him and said, “This is a deserted place, and the hour is now very late; send them away so that they may go into the surrounding country and villages and buy something for themselves to eat.” But he answered them, “You give them something to eat.”
They said to him, “Are we to go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread, and give it to them to eat?” And he said to them, “How many loaves have you? Go and see.” When they had found out, they said, “Five, and two fish.”
Then he ordered them to get all the people to sit down in groups on the green grass. So they sat down in groups of hundreds and of fifties. Taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven, and blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before the people; and he divided the two fish among them all.
And all ate and were filled; and they took up twelve baskets full of broken pieces and of the fish. Those who had eaten the loaves numbered five thousand men.
The Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you, Lord Christ.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE (kneeling or seated as you’re able)
Celebrant: Jesus calls us out of darkness into his marvelous light.
Let us pray together that his glory would be our hope and soul-sustenance.
Intercessor:
Father, the wise men came from the east to worship your Son: grant to Christians everywhere a true spirit of adoration.
Lord, in your mercy
hear our prayer.
Father, your Son descended into the waters of baptism, marking a new start for all creation; your Spirit descended upon him and your Voice spoke your pleasure; let us join you in the renewal of all things.
Lord, in your mercy,
hear our prayer.
Father, your Son is the King of kings and Lord of lords: grant an abundance of peace to your world.
Lord, in your mercy
hear our prayer.
Father, the Holy Family shared the life of the people of Nazareth: protect in your mercy our neighbors and families, together with the whole community of which we are a part. Increase, O God, the spirit of neighborliness among us, that in peril we may uphold one another, in suffering tend to one another, and in homelessness, loneliness, or exile befriend one another.
Lord, in your mercy
hear our prayer.
Father, the Holy Family lived in exile and in the shadow of death, your Son was rich, yet for our sakes he became poor: show your love for the poor and powerless, and strengthen those who suffer.
Lord, in your mercy
hear our prayer.
Father, the infant Christ received gifts of gold, incense and myrrh: accept the gifts we bring, and the offering of our hearts at the beginning of this new year.
Lord, in your mercy
hear our prayer.
Father, you are the King of heaven, the hope of all who trust in you: give to the faithful departed the wonders of your salvation, fulfill in them the purpose of your love; and bring us all, with them, to your eternal joy.
Lord, in your mercy
hear our prayer.
(Intercessor continues)
O God, thank you for calling us into being as Trinity North Shore, to be a garden of your peace, that we and others might connect with you, our communities, and creation to the honor of your name. Move us to live in your Spirit, that the beautiful fruit of your Spirit might be the essence of our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, for from you comes the gift of life and all good gifts that make life worth living.
Amen.
(Intercessor continues)
Prayer for the Communities of Los Angeles and California
Almighty God, by your Word you laid the foundations of the earth, set the boundaries of the sea, and still the wind and the waves. Surround your people with your grace and peace, and preserve them through this season. Send them, we pray, in this time of need, rain and showers. By your Spirit, lift up those who have fallen, strengthen those who work to rescue or rebuild; protect your people, your creation, and your wildlife; fill us with hope, and grant us peace, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Celebrant:
Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ.
Amen
THE NICENE CREED (standing together)
Let’s stand together and profess our faith using the words of the Nicene Creed:
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, visible and invisible.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.
Amen.
THE CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION OF SIN
(kneeling or seated as you’re able)
Let's confess our sins and those things that prevent our being filled with love for God and our neighbors:
Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed,
by what we have done, and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved you with our whole heart;
we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.
We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us;
that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name.
Amen.
Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who in his great mercy has promised forgiveness of sins to all those who sincerely repent and with true faith turn to him, have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and bring you to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
THE PEACE (standing together)
The Peace of the Lord be always with you.
And with your spirit.
(Let’s greet one another with a sign of peace)

THE PRESENTATION OF THE GIFTS
All things come from you, O Lord,
And of your own have we given you.
THE SURSUM CORDA (standing together)
The Lord be with you.
And with your spirit.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give him thanks and praise.
It is right, our duty and our joy, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, who took on our mortal flesh to reveal his glory; that he might bring us out of darkness and into his own glorious light. Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name:
THE SANCTUS
Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the Name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.
THE PRAYER OF CONSECRATION
(kneeling as you’re able or sitting)
Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself; and when we had sinned against you and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent your only Son Jesus Christ into the world for our salvation. By the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary he became flesh and dwelt among us. In obedience to your will, he stretched out his arms upon the Cross and offered himself once for all, that by his suffering and death we might be saved. By his resurrection he broke the bonds of death, trampling Hell and Satan under his feet. As our great high priest, he ascended to your right hand in glory, that we might come with confidence before the throne of grace.
On the night that he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take, eat; this is my Body, which is given for you: Do this in remembrance of me.”
Likewise, after supper, Jesus took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink this, all of you; for this is my Blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you, and for many, for the forgiveness of sins: Whenever you drink it, do this in remembrance of me.”
Celebrant: Therefore, we proclaim the mystery of faith:
Christ has died.
Christ is risen.
Christ will come again.
We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, and we offer you these gifts. Sanctify them by your Word and Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son Jesus Christ. Sanctify us also, that we may worthily receive this holy Sacrament, and be made one body with him, that he may dwell in us and we in him. In the fullness of time, put all things in subjection under your Christ, and bring us with all your saints into the joy of your heavenly kingdom, where we shall see our Lord face to face.
All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ: by him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever.
Amen.
THE LORD’S PRAYER
And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to pray:
Our Father in heaven,
your Name be hallowed,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
as in heaven, also on earth.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen.
(Matthew 6:9–13)

Goodness of God
I love You Lord
Oh Your mercy never fails me
All my days I've been held in Your hands
From the moment that I wake up
Until I lay my head
Oh I will sing of the goodness of God
All my life You have been faithful
And all my life You have been so so good
With every breath that I am able
Oh I will sing of the goodness of God
I love Your voice
You have led me through the fire
In darkest night You are close like no other
I've known You as a Father
I've known You as a Friend
And I have lived in the goodness of God
All my life You have been faithful
And all my life You have been so so good
With every breath that I am able
Oh I will sing of the goodness of God
Your goodness is running after it's running after me
Your goodness is running after it's running after me
With my life laid down I surrender now
I give You everything
Your goodness is running after it's running after me
Your goodness is running after it's running after me
Your goodness is running after it's running after me
With my life laid down I'm surrendered now
